The “rag rug” comes from a really strong tradition that all Swedes are very familiar with. My mother made her own rag rugs so did my grandmother. The concept behind the work for Vandra Rugs has been to change the typology “rag rug” and design a rug that both in form and idea works in new environments such as a livingroom. By using and mixing several weaving techniques and patterns in the same rug, such as Diamond Twill and Rosepath and both blending them together and letting them vary in size, new patterns and forms are created. “Islands” rugs are all oval and come in four different sizes. They can be mixed and matched, used together or separately, allowing for creativity and playfulness meanwhile keeping its function.
